Valentine’s Day is just a couple of weeks away and hmm… what’s that I feel in the air? Sparkly, iridescent, twirly with a touch of warmth.. I think it’s LOVE!
Do you celebrate Valentine’s Day? Do you prefer grand gestures, understated gifts, whispered sweet nothings or maybe personal expressions of love that only your partner will understand? I once bought a boyfriend a life-size rubber model of a brain for Valentine’s Day; no one else understood and considered it extremely strange but he adored it and it made the day one to remember! Maybe you’re a strong believer that every day is a day to show love and that Valentine’s Day is nothing special?
I think we can all agree that there are some places in the world that simply emulate romance and can inspire the lover in all of us, Valentine’s Day or no Valentine’s Day. Here’s our pick of some of the most beautifully romantic destinations and hotels around the world, perfect for travelers looking to celebrate their love at any time of the year.
Paris, the City of Lights
It may be a cliché but many lithe and wanton hearts alike will agree that Paris truly is the capital of romance. Meander along the Seine River, dine in some of the world’s best restaurants, marvel at the wonders in the Louvre and stroll down the Champs-Élysées to the Eiffel Tower. Pester family and friends who have visited Paris before for their favourite sights and spots, or check online forums for tips on the most romantic places to dine, dance and truly enjoy Paris. One of the best things about the romance and beauty of Paris is that it doesn’t care about your budget or the type of hotel you stay in; it is potent and powerful enough to reach every traveler and to ensure that love ensues.
Our hotel choice for this city is the epitome of luxury. The Four Seasons Hotel George V is beautiful, elegant and exceptionally romantic. Its charm and splendour envelope you in sense of awe, making it the perfect destination for lovers who want to indulge. Our dream room? The Penthouse, which comes with a private terrace with views over Paris (including the Eiffel Tower).
The Maldives is renowned as a destination for people in love. Honeymoons, anniversaries, weddings and engagements are all celebrated frequently here and we can see why…pristine white sand, the bluest sea imaginable and a true sense of escaping from the world. Speaking from experience, you’ll never see stars as big as those above you if you lie on Maldivian sand and gaze upwards at the night sky. Many of the Maldivian resorts come with spas, infinity pools, boat trips and special romantic features such as dining by candlelight on a sandbank in the sea. It’s mostly one hotel per island which creates an incredible feeling of seclusion and there are plenty of hotels to choose from, with a range of prices available (look out for cheaper deals in low season, which runs from May to November). The resort pictured is called Gili Lankanfushi (formerly Soneva Gili).
Once home to one of Italy’s most famous lovers, Casanova, Venice is a popular destination for couples looking to celebrate their love. The romance of punting in a Gondola, the breath-taking views of the Grand Canal, the sun going down over St. Mark’s square, the magic of twisting, hidden alleyways and midnight walks by the water bathed in moonlight…. *sigh*. Venice is popular with tourists but there are plenty of secret spaces and beautiful sights tucked away for couples to explore and enjoy.
The beautiful Carlton on the Grand Canal occupies a prime location in Venice, right on the Grand Canal itself. It’s sophisticated and elegant, with lovely features such as a beautiful Venetian courtyard at the heart of the building.
The Lake District
The Lake District is dark and breath-taking, with spectacular views and unparalleled natural beauty. Snuggle up with your loved one in front of a roaring log fire, hike through the spectacular landscape or simply succumb to the sheer magnitude of the beauty around you. There are water activities to enjoy, historical places to visit, trails and hikes to adventure along and country shows and festivals on all year.
The Cranleigh is located just one minute away from Lake Windemere and proudly maintains a traditionally friendly and informal atmosphere while creating accommodation with all the cutting edge style of an expensive boutique hotel. For a true getaway for two stay in The Sanctuary; this individual property features a super king-size bed, remote control log-effect fire, private outside hot tub with mood lighting and a Ben de Lisi glass bath.
