The Kinderhotel Muchetta in Wiesen, Switzerland, is a hotel designed for the comfort and well-being of children and families. The staff are very experienced and dedicated to providing a friendly and welcoming atmosphere that meets the variety of different needs children have. With a two-storey soft play area, a creative room for crafts and games, a LEGO corner where imagination flourishes and a kids’ table at dinnertime, this hotel really is unique in its dedication to providing an excellent environment for children and giving parents some time to themselves. Nearby is skiing, snow boarding, hiking, snow shoe adventures, skating and sledging.
Looking for somewhere to hole up and snuggle whilst the snow rages outside? Pay the gorgeous Cambrian hotel in the Swiss Alps a visit. The views here are incredible; mountains surround the hotel at every side creating a unique and stunning setting for your holiday in the snow. The hotel is perfectly placed for skiing but also has an award-winning spa, excellent restaurant, heated outdoor pool with breathtaking views and a bar that welcomes you and your dog. Okay so we couldn’t have a snowy holidays blog without featuring a dedicated ski hotel. The Melia Boutique Royal Tanau is located in Tanau, in the highest part of Baqueira Beret in the Catalan Pyrenees. The Esquirós chairlift is just 50m away, leading to 78 slopes spread over 120 km. You can also go dog-sledding, ice skating, snow racket and snow mobile excursions, winter sleigh rides and join a trainee ski programme if this is your first skiing holiday. After a day on the slopes, head to the hotel’s YHI Spa which is dedicated to relaxing your body and mind after an intense day in the snow.
There are a few amazing examples of hotels made out of ice dotted around the world – our favourite is the Icehotel in Jukkasjärvi, a small village in the north of Sweden. The hotel is constructed from an ice and snow-ice mix, with a mixture of warm and cold accommodation for guests to choose from. The cold accommodation is breathtaking and is what the hotel is most famous for. The Art Suites feature hand-carved, individual ice decorations and the deluxe rooms come with an ensuite sauna. Choose the Northen Lights room to enjoy a homage to the beautiful, natural phenomena or an Ice Room with furniture made completely from ice. Every guest staying in the cold accommodation gets briefed on best pratice so be sure to pack some thermal underwear which is a must in minus degrees! Head to the Ice Bar for cocktails in glasses made of ice and a snow covered dance floor. AMAZING!
This beautiful and traditional L’Hermitage Hotels-Chalets de Tradition hotel is a picture-perfect example of a cosy and welcoming hotel. Boasting views of the Brévent, the Aiguilles de Chamonix and Mont-Blanc, this hotel exudes warmth and elegance with contemporary comforts and delicious food. It has some really amazing Trip Advisor reviews that speak of its friendly staff and owners, beautifully peaceful location (within walking distance of the busy centre of Chamonix) and stunning, traditional wooden-chalet style. Curl up in front of the hotel lounge fire and enjoy the magnificent views of the surrounding area.
Another quirky treat now… the Whitepod Eco-Luxury hotel. Each tent-like pod comes with a large bay window to let in lots of natural light and lovely, soft furnishings. Expected a king-sized bed, fully fitted bathroom, a mezzanine and a wood-burning stove. Just imagine how lovely it must be to spend a day out in the snow and then to come back and snuggle up in your own personal pod. Whitepod has its own private slopes and lifts where you can ski or ‘snowscoot’ (an amazing bike- snowboard contraption); it also has snowshoe and dog-sled expeditions, massage therapy and a nearby thermal bath (Les Bains de Lavey is open all year at a temperature of 32°C to 36°C ).
