Family Friendly Holidays

We’re just a few weeks into the New Year and already families across to UK and Ireland are dreaming of the summer holidays! While a fun 6 weeks away from school is the time of year children look forward to most, parents are responsible for organising, planning and booking a family holiday… not to mention packing and having to get to that dream destination!

With all the pressures of booking a holiday to remember, the last thing parents want to stress about is choosing the right hotel in the right location, combining the perfect amount of activities for the kids and relaxation for the adults.  To help with this all important decision, I’ve compiled a few of my favourite hotels for family holidays.

Majorca is a popular choice as there’s plenty to see and do- beach lovers won’t be disappointed by the golden stretches of sand whilst teenagers will want to take advantage of the island’s numerous water parks! Make sure you avoid party areas such as Magaluf and Palmanova and opt for more family friendly towns such as Santa Ponsa and Alcudia.

Alcudia will offer you a home from home with plenty of British nosh for those of you who like some home comforts when abroad! If you’re after a Mediterranean culinary experience, walk down towards the harbour for seafood restaurants and Spanish and French cuisine. Stay in the Iberostar Alcudia Park hotel which is described as a ‘children’s paradise’, hardly suprising with the fabulous pool, playground, and mini club to keep the kids entertained. With direct access to the beach, this hotel is a firm family favourite- oh and did we mention the gym and sauna for the adults? Lush!

Over on the other side of the island is the lively Santa Ponsa, where energetic holidaymakers can enjoy a whole range of watersports,  a go carting track and thee golf courses. The town boasts an impressive nightlife but is popular with families for its shops and the possibility of lazy days on the beach with one of the many sunbeds or parasols to hire. Stay at the TRH Jardin Del Mar for an idyllic self catering holiday.

Playa Blanca in Lanzarote is the place to stay if you want clear and calm waters- ideal for swimming and sunbathing. Playa Flamingo is a safe family beach; enjoy a stroll along the promenade for local cafes and bars before heading back to your room at the seafront Papagayo. Here you can take advantage of the relaxing spa and wellness centre (just what you need after a hard day’s sunbathing!) before heading down to the hotel’s bar and disco.

San Agustin in Gran Canaria is another superb destination for a relaxing holiday, as it’s quieter than its neighbouring resorts of Playa del Inglés and Maspalomas. The 670m long beach is well protected against the waves and provides the perfect base for a spot of scuba diving and snorkeling. Stay at the Ifa Interclub Atlantic for a hotel with 40,000 square metres of gardens, games, music and a mini club for the little ones.

No guide to family breaks would be complete without a mention of the brilliant Benidorm– famous for sun, sea, sand and sangria! This is a firm family favourite for Brits abroad- you can read all about it in this blog post. One of my favourite hotels for families is the brilliant Sol Penicanos Ocas, famous for being featured in the popular TV show Benidorm.
