Best Holiday Destinations To Visit This October
With jumper weather firmly upon us, October is the perfect month to catch some last minute sunshine – and you don’t need to travel far in order to get back into those summer clothes once again. In fact, some of the best holiday destinations in October are just a short haul flight away.
The TOWIE crew can’t get enough of ‘Marbs’ during the summer, but if only they knew just what it had to offer come October! This month of the year is very much party month along the Costa Del Sol, when all the local towns and villages throw their annual fiestas. Fuengirola throws its annual fair from the 6th-12th October and it’s one of the largest fairs on the coast, with a wealth of rides and small casetas where you can bring drinks and listen to live music. Expect to see both locals and visitors dressed in traditional Spanish dress. The area of Nerja throws its fair during the second week of October, but it’s the Cadiar fiesta that we’re really excited about – this sees a wine fountain installed in town, offering free wine to everyone during the festivities!
Portugal’s Algarve is gorgeous during the late autumn months. The weather stays in the high 20°s throughout October and it isn’t uncommon to see people sunbathing on the beach well into November. Although with the country containing some of the world’s best beaches, we can’t say we blame them. Albufeira has no less than 25 different beaches and while it might not be possible to visit them all during your stay, there’s a few that should definitely make it onto your itinerary. Praia dos Pescadores, also known as Fisherman’s Beach, is a great family beach with plenty of watersports for guests to choose from, whilst Praia Gale features fascinating rock formations and a variety of beachside restaurants. Finally, if you’re looking for somewhere teeming with wildlife, the Blue Flag Praia Salgados is particularly renowned for its rich birdlife.
Close to the border of France, the city of San Sebastian would suit those seeking sunshine and beach days outside of Spain’s usual holiday hotspots. La Concha, the local beach, is well known for its white sands, spectacular sunsets and delightful promenade. If you can bear to drag yourself away from the sunbed, the city is a gourmands’ paradise, with plenty of local tours including everything from evening pinxtos (the local version of tapas) crawls to a three-day excursion touring the vineyards of the Rioja region.
Children are well catered for in San Sebastian and there are several interesting family attractions from the Eureka! Science Museum to the aquarium teeming with a plethora of local marine life. Don’t miss taking the funicular up to Monte Igueldo for both stunning views across the city and the traditional fairground rides that sit on top of the mountain.
